This blog post came up today and it was very apropos because yesterday I also preached about discipleship and the prosperity Gospel. One of the things that strikes me is that she is making nuanced differentiations based on a careful reading of both context, in her case Tanzania, and Gospel. This kind of nuance is important and I have a sense does not develop until someone has been in a culture for a period of time. This relates back to my posts about Leaving Season because while I often hear my colleagues tell me that they want help in grappling with the prosperity Gospel rampant in Malawi, I can’t really help them until I have entered into the culture that incubates the prosperity Gospel. I could give them canned answers but that disregards the reality of their experience, something that this post tries to pick up on.
